Programma di febbraio
1 – Il cinema di Mario Monicelli (con Valeria) 
Giovedì 8,15,22 e 29 febbraio alle 16:00 ora italiana.
Il corso si focalizzerà sul fermento intellettuale che ha animato la città Viareggio e che Mario Monicelli ha respirato durante la sua adolescenza. Si analizzeranno le caratteristiche del periodo storico e culturale in cui Monicelli ha iniziato a mettere a punto il suo stile narrativo semplice, efficace e funzionale.
Approfondiremo insieme tre film del regista.
2 – L’uomo del Rinascimento (con Ilaria)
Venerdì 2,9,16 e 23 febbraio alle 16:00 ora italiana.
Il corso si concentrerà sulle caratteristiche principali di uno dei periodi più rappresentativi della storia italiana ed europea.
Analizzeremo opere di architettura, scultura e pittura di artisti come Michelangelo, Brunelleschi, Leonardo Da Vinci, Ghiberti, Masaccio e Donatello.
L’arte di questi grandi personaggi ci aiuterà e immergerci nel pensiero e nella visione del mondo dell’uomo del Rinascimento.
Importante: se non riuscirai a frequentare tutti gli incontri, metteremo a disposizione le registrazioni delle lezioni
che potrai guardare quando vuoi!

Ogni città ha la sua tradizione ed il suo modo di fare festa!
In Toscana il Carnevale di Viareggio è sicuramente il più famoso, la prima edizione risale al 1873!
Tutte le persone si travestono e vanno in passeggiata ad ammirare gli enormi carri di cartapesta. Ogni carro ha un tema, molto spesso si tratta di satira politica, ci sono figuranti, musiche e scenografie di ogni tipo. Alla fine la giuria popolare decreterà il vincitore!

Programme for February
1 – The stage director Mario Monicelli (with Valeria)
Thursday the 8th, the 15th, the 22nd and the 29th of February at 4:00 p.m Italian time.
The course focuses on the lively intellectual atmosphere of the city of Viareggio, the same vibe that Mario Monicelli had the luck to experience when he was a teenager.
We will go through the historical and the cultural features of the period when he started to develop his narrative style, so simple but effective!
We will analyze 3 of his movies together.
2 – The man of the Renaissance with Ilaria
Friday the 2nd, the 9th, the 16th and the 23rd of February at 4:00 p.m Italian time
The course will focus on the main features of the Renaissance, one of the most representative period of Italian and European history.
We will analyze the architecture, the sculpture and the paintings of artists such as Michelangelo, Brunelleschi, Leonardo Da Vinci, Ghiberti, Masaccio and Donatello.
Following these great artists will help us to immerse ourselves in the thoughts and the vision of “the man of the Renaissance”.
Important: if you can’t attend all the classes
we will provide you with the recording
that you will be able to watch whenever you want.

Do not forget that February is the month of Carnival celebrations in Italy!
Each city has its own way to party!
In Tuscany, the Carnival of Viareggio is the most famous and its first edition was in 1873!
People wear crazy costumes and go on the beautiful promenade to admire the huge papier-machè floats! Each one focuses on a topic, often political satire, they have loud music with people singing and dancing alongside the entries!
There are several categories of floats and winners are chosen by a jury of local Viareggini!
Check out the web links for times and events if you are lucky enough to be in Italy during February, don’t miss the chance, it’s a truly incredible event. Otherwise go online and see previous years parades.
